Universidad De Playa Ancha Exposition

Today Friday 27 we went to the UPLA (Universidad De Playa Ancha) with our English teacher Sir Julio Uribe to listen to three different presentations, all of them about English literature, the first one about the book “white teeth” written by Zadie Smith and exposed by Michelle Prime, the second one was about “The city of last things” and “1984” both of them exposed by three students of the university and the last one was a presentation of “The kite runner” written by Khaled Hosseini  and presented by our teacher Julio Uribe, this presentation was special because it make people think and reflection about what is home.  Sir Julio connected topics using the concept of roots, like something that can grow anywhere, they are not always in where you are living right know, just like in the kite runner, the roots of Amir where in the U.S.A and not in Afghanistan where he used to live. In my personal opinion Sir Julio’s presentation was the best not only because the book he choose is excellent  but because the way he presented was different than the other, and it had an enormous impact in the audience that where listening very quiet and respectful .

Animal farm speach

Speech:

Hello and welcome animals! Everyone had noticed in this last month all the horrible things that had occurred here in this farm, unacceptable “incidents” that should had never happened, less in our animal farm. Brother and sisters of this farm, we can solve this problem, and I think we all know what or better said who is the head behind this master plan, the root of the troubles and is “Pigs”. It would be hard to win this battle but not impossible, sating together, with conviction and strength we will exile the evil pigs forever and ever.

Pigs had been stilling our food and saving it for their own benefits, we are starving here! Ps have killed all the chickens because they refused to sell their eggs, can you believe that? Also Pigs have exile our loved boxer and probably killed him too. When animals started the revolution against humans, pigs made promises of prosperity and happiness, they created beautiful laws, laws they modified by now without asking anybody. If this continues like now we will go all the way back to the start. Every day pigs are becoming more humans, they stand like them, they talk like them also they dress like humans!

Do you want that pigs continue with their empire? There is only one solution to this problem, only one that will ensure the victory and glory and is revolution, get up! We are bigger in number than pigs, we have to rise from ashes like the phoenix, and we will do it once twice all the necessary times to finally lead our farm by us. Grab your weapons animals, tonight we face the evil pigs and we will do whatever is necessary to exile them for once and all.

So animals of the farm, you know what to do now, I gave you the tool, now you built your Kingdome. I’ll be with you in this fight but I need you to be there with me and fight pigs back. We will take the power back of this farm. I swear in the name of Snowball, Boxer and all our death fellows that we will win this battle and use the power of the farm for  the benefit of every single one of us!

written assignment

The kite runner is about two kids, the rich boy called Amir and the servant called Hassan. This two kids are friends. Hassan and his father Ali seem forced to leave the house of Baba (the father of Amir) time before the Russian invaded Afghanistan. When Russia started the invasion Baba and Amir left Kabul and went to live in California U.S.A.

The connection between my task and the novel is that the letter is written by amir when they were living in America, after Amir graduated from school, this letter was never written. If this letter were written would be situated between chapter eleven and twelve.

My goal is to let everybody know that people can change, just like Amir did. I'm trying to tell to everyone that in the time Amir was living in America he suffer an enormous change in his personality, now he does not fear of talking to his old friend Hassan.

I would try to reach my goal by writing a letter to Hassan by Amir, explaining everything that is happening to him in America, the condition of Baba, the girl he met called Soraya and his plans to marry her and have a life together. This literary work would be a letter, it is informal because its supposed that Amir and Hassan were friends and they could still being friends after everything they lived in Afghanistan, the audience in this case is Hassan because it is a letter directed to him.

Dear Hassan,

I know we haven't talked in a while, that is probably the main reason of why I’m writing this letter to you, I hope you can read this by now, or ask Ali to help you out. Here life has been hard, California is nice, but Baba has to work hard every day for us to eat and sleep under a roof in a warm bed, covered from the cold winter. In summer everything is different, people is out in the street, walking their dogs, playing under the sun, living happy and with no worries

Baba is working in a gas station, or he was, before he got sick. It all started with a cold and a cough, then it got worse, he coughed blood once, and then I took him to the doctor. He started a scandal because the doctor Schneider was born in Russia, he lost it and pushed him back. Baba refused to take the treatment with him, so we had to look for another doctor. This one was Dr. Amani, an Iranian, Baba approved this time. After some long weeks the results of the exam were ready. They were not good, not good at all. Oat cell carcinoma advanced was detected, a type of Cancer with no cure, he would probably die soon. Baba didn't want to take chemotherapy, anyways, the chemotherapy would only prolong the outcome, Baba would die anyway, either today or in a month, it could happen anytime, he looks terrible and is not going to work, he can't even woke up from bed. I called that time "The time of many firsts" it was the first time I heard Baba moaning in the bathroom, the first time I found blood on his pillow and the first time he called sick at work.

You know, not everything are sad stories, there are also good things going on here in America, I met a girl, she is the daugther of a Pashtun, her name is Soraya. After I met Soraya Taheri, every day of the week become Yelda for me. She has big brown eyes and her face is always in my mind. I’m waiting till I have the courage to go and talk to her, maybe I will give her one of my stories, she likes reading.

My friend, I can’t wait for the moment when we will be together again, so I could read all my stories to you as when we were childrens under that tree in Kabul. I hope that when that day comes me and Soraya Jan will be married, living here or in Afghanistan. Would you come to live with me if we go to Afghanistan? It is so sad that we had to separate too soon.

With this letter is also attached my favorite story written by me, it is a gift to you for all the years of friendship. I promise I will go for you to Hazarajat, and just if you want to we would have a life together as when we were kids.

                                                                                                               Take care, your friend Amir.

activity 1.3

Man: I want to do this, we can afford it and is pretty safe to the kid. I want a balanced family, I wouldn’t take the risk of having another girl.

Women: Honey, I just don´t like the idea, it is unnatural to do this, I wouldn’t feel this child like mine. I don’t want my baby to be in a test tube.

Man: There is nothing to fear about babe, with all the technological advances our kid would grow healthy and strong. Invitro fertilization is a secure process, many people have opted for this and had worked out perfectly. There is nothing to be afraid of.

Women:  I don’t know, it feels wrong, we can’t pretend to be god, life it’s not a game, I don’t want my baby in the hands of technology and human progress.

Man: This is not only progress, it’s the future of human raze, in 20 years the cloning of humans would be normal, only this way we can have our ideal baby, think about it.

Women: There is the problem, I don’t want the ideal baby genetically modified, if I had another kid it would be from a natural way, like it should be.

Man: Well, then we can always make it not perfect but modify his gender.

Women: I think you are not getting my idea, I don’t want my baby to be in a laboratory or inside a test tube.

Women: I know but it just doesn’t feels right to do this to my own kid, I don’t like doctor  and you think I would like to have my baby in a laboratory full of them, looking at him and testing on him ¿what if he die?

Man: you are being paranoid that would never happen, that’s why we pay that sum of money for this treatment, is 100% viable. Man: but is only while hi is getting ready, it’s not like he is going to be different anyways.

Women: Pleas try to understand me, I would not let you do this, it is inappropriate, unethical, unnatural and inhuman. I refuse to the IVF. Also I think we would broke some governmental policy’s, and I don’t want to have more troubles.

Man: O.K Honey I understand you, we will not take the IVF, if that baby we would have him from the only correct way to do it, the way we were bring to the earth.

Unfortunately we live in a very discriminatory society where bullying is so normal that nobody does anithing o stop it. In this days are many suicides of teens because of bullying that is unbelievable.
From my point of view the only way that this teen could fit in our society is by hiding his ideals, his roots, his language and been one more of the lot, a normal teen like any one else.

4.- In my school discrimination is everywear and in every single day, in and out the class rooms. In my class the is a guy who I will not mention his name, but hi is a brilliant mind, and is allways tying to participate and cooperating in class by racing his hand but at the exact moment hi raice his hand all the bullies start laughing at him and throw paper with insults or ofensive draws. The thing is that hi will never try to participate in class again because of the bullying, hi is not scared of bullies hi is terrified of them. This is how our model society kills brilliant minds and made them feel like nothing.

5.-
Interview to Sir Carlos Salas:

I started this interview with one question, going straight to the point: “What do you think about racism?”  Mister Salas answer was direct, “I think racism is something stupid, only stupid people is racist. Racism is something that shouldn’t exist and everybody should think the same about racism.” He said. That’s the opinion of a Teacher from the Mackay School. Carlos Salas, Language teacher.

6.- In this extract of the movie 8 Mile of the famous raper Eminem we can apreciate a singular fourm of racism. The extract start with Eminem and his friends raping on a parking lot and after a minutes came other "crew" or group of black men who discriminated of a racist way Eminem sayin that hi is withe so he can´t rap, this guys tol to Eminem´s friend to take him back the the 8 mile ( U.S.A) where his home was. is a sigular scene because is to weir to see a black guy been racist after all the went throug by been black, that is why this movie called my atention.

The Kite Runner text correction

Dear father,

Since the kite runner tournament, I been feeling not good, not good at all, and I will explain you why.

In the sky the last two kites of the competition, Amir´s vs another blue kite, when Amir finally cut down the other kite I made a promise to him, to bring back this blue kite to him, so he can show it to baba and win his respect.

I went as fast as I culd, running behind the kite, I fought a few kids for the kite and I finally win it. I was returning homewith Amir´s kite and it was late so I decided to take shorter road that would leave next to home faster, but when I started walking I crushed with Assef and his two friends, the pushed me to a dead end alley and Assef started talking. The first he said was that he wanted Amir´s kite, I replyed him with a no, I wans´t going to fail Amir. Assef punched my head with a rock and a fell to the ground. The last thing I heard was that if I wasn´t giving the kite to him I would have to do him another favour, in that moment Assef friend took me by my arms and pulled down my pants, I heard the zipper of Assef going down and inmediately I knew what was about to happen.

Now you know why I been feeling sad, i don´t trust in anybody now father.
